Typically, lower cost --or "free'-- handsets focus more on fitting in than standing out. They strive to compete on features rather than design.
The goal of the VU204 was to create a low cost handset with unique character: a product that would stand out on the shelf, but have a subtler, softer appeal.
In order to meet aggressive cost targets, several parts were combined, providing both a seamless appearance and reducing cost allowing rich details.
